A Study On Abc University - 1387 Words

Introduction ABC University is a fine establishment built in the early 1900’s. This establishment has produced some of the most prominent professionals all over the world. Our mathematics department is second to none. Recently, we have had a problem with students leaving after one year. It is my position that our current staff is ill-equipped at servicing the needs of this generation, and I propose that we establish some training guidelines that will equip our staff with the knowledge in which to handle this generation of students. Many places of higher learning have played a major role in systems of higher education in different countries (Braxton et al. 2013). It is due to these institutions that most students have†¦show more content†¦Gainful employment is an aspect that implies that placement of graduates is done in their chosen jobs, which are relevant to their area of study. Also, the jobs must provide students with meaningful income that enable the students to pay back their student loans. In for profit institutions of higher learning, students are enrolled in shorter programs, a sales strategy, aimed at increasing profits. A higher level of education is perceived to be potential for higher earnings and salaries, and this increases the demand for diplomas or degrees. In the case of for-profit universities, losing even a single student is serious business, and most institutions of higher learning are do everything within their powers to retain students who in most cases need to be monitored and mentored for them to succeed. Capacity building has different meanings and interpretations depending on who uses it and in what context it is used. It is generally accepted that capacity building as a concept is closely related to education, training and human resource development. This conventional concept has changed in recent years towards a broader and more holistic view, covering both institutional and country specific initiatives (Williamson, et al, 2003).
